At Aurora House, we realize that each of us has different God-given talents.
We would like you to use those talents to assist Aurora House fulfill its mission in the ways that you feel most comfortable.

Volunteers are a Blessing

Resident’s needs are always our priority

These are just some of the areas that you can assist with when volunteering.

  • Answer call bells–If you have questions, ask the staff/caregivers.
  • Help with the feeding of the residents and/or help in the kitchen.
  • Wash, dry, fold and store laundry.
  • Clean the kitchen.
  • Check the bathrooms and clean as needed.
  • Empty and reline trash containers.
  • Mop the floors.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas.
  • Clean Ceiling fans, windows and glass doors.
  • Water indoor plants.
  • Provide hospitality to family and friends of residents

Other Suggestions:

  • Get someone a cup of tea/coffee.
  • Read aloud to a resident.
  • Sing or hum.
  • Invite people to play a game.
  • Take a resident outside.
  • Talk, and especially listen to residents and family members.
  • Sit by a resident…..Being there is important.

If the house is quiet but you’re feeling like you just have to do something, you can still be a blessing by helping out in the following:

  • Fold plastic bags for trash containers.
  • Straighten up and clean linen storage rooms, kitchen cupboards, bookcases, etc…
  • Sort magazines, keep a variety about 20. The rest can be recycled.
  • Look for things to clean-ceiling fans, oven, refrigerator, desk, etc.
  • Help with the baking cookies, cake, and/or make pudding or jell-O.
  • Sweep outdoor patio.
  • Look for ways to use your unique gifts.
  • Do garden/yard work, as you are able.
  • Water plants outdoors.

You can also help with Clerical/Administrative tasks, Public Relations, Fundraising, and Special Projects

General Volunteer Information:

All volunteers are expected to

  • Provide a loving, supportive, concerned presence to residents, visitors, and other volunteers.
  • Follow Aurora House policies, including Confidentiality Policy ,Security, Infection Control, and Emergency Procedures.
  • Attend an hour Volunteer training if possible prior to volunteering.

Patients are not charged for their stay, and Aurora House does not receive money from Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, or other governmental resources. Instead, it relies on the generosity of its residents and their families, the community, and charitable organizations for support.

Mission Statement

Aurora House recognizes dying as a part of the normal process of living and focuses on respect and compassion in preparation for death. Its mission is to provide care for persons in the last phase of incurable disease, so they can approach death with dignity, comfort, and peace.
